Ickleford Neighbourhood Plan 2022 - 2035 Submission Version March 2023
1. Introduction
Representation ID: 10334
Received: 21/06/2023
Respondent: HNL Sustainable Places, Environment Agency
We have had to prioritise our limited resource and focus on strategic plans where the environmental risks and opportunities are highest. We attach our advice note which sets out our substantive response to Neighbourhood Plan consultations.
We recognise that Neighbourhood Plans provide a unique opportunity to deliver enhancements to the natural environment at the local level. The attached advice note sets out the key environmental issues, within our remit, which should be considered. It also references sources of data you can use to check environmental features.
For awareness, the following environmental constraints within the Environment Agency remit fall inside the Ickleford Neighbourhood Plan boundary:
• River Hiz (Main River + Chalk Stream (legally protected))
• Protected Species (screened for Environmental Permitting) – Brown/Sea Trout, Bullhead, European Water Vole, White-clawed Freshwater Crayfish
• Source Protection Zone 3
• Principle Bedrock Aquifer
• Secondary Superficial Aquifer
• Monitoring borehole – Glendale Ickleford
• Authorised landfill site – North Herts Landfill
• Historic Landfills - Ickleford Railway Cutting and Lower Green
We are pleased to see that the Neighbourhood Plan places strong emphasis on the conservation of the River Hiz, a chalk stream with high environmental value.
We hope this information provided has been helpful as you continue the preparation of the Ickleford Neighbourhood Plan.
