Pirton Neighbourhood Development Plan 2011 - 2031
4. THE NEIGHBOURHOOD PLAN VISION AND OBJECTIVES.
Representation ID: 5842
Received: 22/03/2017
Respondent: Mrs Marilyn Parkin
Tremendous work by Pirton Parish Council, the Neighbourhood Plan Steering Commitee and residents of Pirton who have worked together so hard to produce this vision for the future of our community in Pirton.
As a resident, I was happy to be consulted and involved in the process and feel that this really represents the wishes of Pirton.
By defining the character of our village, it's environment, heritage, amenities and transport, the plan communicated what we treasure about living in Pirton.
Please approve this plan because we need our collective wishes to influence the future o our community.

Meeting local needs is most important. People love the village and stay for many years over which their housing needs change. Having the opportunity to move within the village, to up-size or down-size is important to keeping the community together.

Criteria proposed are good.
The development by Howard Homes Housing association exemplifies what we are looking for.
Attention to the design and character of the village is important to preserve the environment.
Development driven purely by the profit motive leads to big, tall houses crowded onto small plots and harms the quality of life for all in the village. Little attention is paid by these developers to the design standards listed here.
By contrast, sympathetic development, like the Howard Homes Housing association in Pirton provided what we need.
Their description of the development sums it up:
"In March 2015 we completed a scheme of 11 houses and bungalows in the desirable village of Pirton, Hertfordshire. Also delivered to meet an identified need, this scheme provides an opportunity for local people to continue to reside within the community in which they grew up."

Pirton is a green village. It is important that it does not become urbanized and retains it's rural character.
