Local Plan 2011-2031 Proposed Submission Draft

I have lived, directly on looking the conservation area running parallel with G2 since the properties were built in late 2003. At various times there has been discussion and efforts to secure development rights and I attended the last round of meetings at the Great Ashby community centre a couple of years back. The concerns at that time were the same as at present, namely that there is insufficient infrastructure and provision for the existing community, let alone expansion. These include doctors surgeries, schools and wholly inadequate parking, partly attributable to the relaxation of building regulations but mostly the sheer number of vehicles per house and the fact that there is essentially one main road that services the area, i.e. Great Ashby Way.
At this meetings I raised the fact that when purchasing our new home from Croudace we had been promised a new secondary school amongst other things form the local council but following the economic downturn of 2008 it was scrapped. In the meantime, we live approximately 400 yards form the local junior school (Round Diamond) and yet we are unable to secure places for our children due to demand for places. When I raised these issues at the council meeting I was told that approving the development would increase the chances of a school being built which frankly was insulting my intelligence.
I understand that new housing has to be built but the roads are already stretched and the provision for doctors and schools is non-existent. The plan to augment the existing schools in the are is ill conceived in my view and will not be sufficient for the potential number of new families.
The second issue is more emotive but no less important. The value of the local countryside to the community cannot be overstated. Dog walkers, Horse riders, children on bikes and hikers of all ages find it enormously beneficial and it would e a crime to build houses where there is currently glorious nature. There is also the issue of the local wildlife and the damage to the environment.
I would like to see new housing being built in new areas as opposed to "bolting" them on to an existing development which is already under resourced. New developments need new infrastructure, not re-hashed existing infrastructure. The current proposals would create a great deal of resentment form the local community who have been promised many things over the years but had almost nothing delivered.
Please reject them and find a solution that will work for the families who need new housing but without destroying the lives of the existing Great Ashby residents
