Object to LG1:
Precious land and really struggling infrastructure. New settlements are the only way for a sustainable future. Tacking new estates onto existing towns can only work for so long. North Hertfordshire has already too many private dwellings in it. This is a council ticking boxes for policy without looking after the people or the countryside for which its responsible.
- Build on the Green Belt
From a resident of the Granges perspective and someone who uses local infrastructure regularly, roads and parking around Letchworth and the Grange are at Bursting point. 900 homes will certainly creating more than 900 cars, nevermind the buses, taxi's, delivery vehicles etc. that will be needed to service them. There is no way that Letchworths roads could be modified to cope with this. The green belt that the NHDC are proposing to build on is so precious to the town and its residents. Used extensively for farming and recreation, if this land disappears so will the wellbeing of so many of north hertfordshires inhabitants. The gaps now between north herts towns of Letchworth and Hitchin do not represent land of any quantity or quality to the residents of either town, even more important then to keep this precious green belt for future enjoyment and the growth of food. The green belt that NHDC is proposing to reallocate is not on residents doorstep, not on the perimeter of the town, not prime agricultural land and not easily accessible for all.
