I am in my early thirties and ex resident of Preston. I hope to return to the village in the future but I would not want to live on an ‘estate’ style development as is proposed. It has always been known that the land in question was earmarked for development but having played and walked dogs there as a child I balk at the idea that twenty three new homes are to be built on this area of land.
Do you ever ask yourselves why people want period and older properties? The reason is they were built better - hence they are still standing, the room dimensions are bigger and the rooms are brighter due to the larger windows. Perhaps one of the reasons we have a shortage of housing in this country is because what is being built is not fit for purpose. Are we again looking at UPVC windows and doors, plastic guttering and facias so thin they start to rot before the building warranty expires? I am not suggesting that we keep building a pastiche of the past but build creatively and well and give people room to breathe. Human beings need space not rabbit hutches.
How many extra cars are we looking at? Probably at least forty six and that’s without their Amazon and supermarket deliveries! Should I have children I will certainly not let them cycle around the village as I once did nor the surrounding lanes.
Sadly I don’t think planners or builders consider or care about the consequences of their decisions. In my opinion it is only about reaching housing targets and how cheaply it can be achieved. I implore you to reconsider the size and indeed style of this project.
