Much of the current green infrastructure in the District comprises historic parks and gardens. Any changes to the GI in these sites, whether nationally designated or locally listed should take the protection of the heritage assets into consideration when changes, particularly if there is new development, are proposed. Historic parks and gardens can contribute to mitigation of climate change effects but their importance as historic records should not be harmed.
