Wymondley Parish Neighbourhood Plan 2015 - 2031

Section 16 presents a strong case for reducing the planned build of 300 houses to 50. Building on green belt, the increased risk of flooding and destroying the character of what is a lovely village are all strong arguments against an excessive number of new houses. In addition, there are already a number of congested traffic routes in and around the village: 300 new houses will only exacerbate this situation further. I haven't seen any official documents from North Herts District Council that address all of these issues (green belt, flood risk, village character, traffic) in detail, which is worrying.

The Green Party supports neighbourhood planning although our policy states that the Neighbourhood Plan should be in general conformity with the strategic policies of the Local Plan. However, the reduced scale of development outlined in the Wymondley Neighbourhood Plan (50 dwellings as opposed to NHDC's 300 dwellings) concurs with our overall principle of Demand Management which is against development based on projected need. Instead a stepped development programme is preferred which allows for additional development as it is required. The new homes should be built according to green principles of energy/materials conservation and a good proportion of them should be social housing.

There is an emphasis in the Plan on a local need for more homes for retired people. We support the provision of housing tailored for the local population.
